Will Smith’s ‘Gemini Man’ Disappoints At Box Office

Will Smith's latest action movie, Gemini Man, had a rough start at the box office this past weekend. Projections estimate the movie to have only brought in $20.5 million domestically.

The movie pulled in $39 million internationally, putting the film into third place behind Joker and The Addams Family.

The movie is about Smith playing an assassin facing off against a younger version of himself. The technology that was used to create the effects of a younger Smith reportedly played a big role in the movie's estimated $140 million budget.

According to SyFy Wire, the movie has been in development for almost 20 years, which may have added to its weak reception.

It's also been reported that the movie wasn't able to be played in its intended format anywhere in the U.S. Director Ang Lee shot the film to be watched specifically at a frame rate of 120 fps, on a high res 4K projector and in 3D. No theatres were equipped to show the film in this specific way. Some theatres offer the movie in 3D, but only at 60fps, or 3D at 120fps but only in 2K resolution. Hopefully, the movie begins to pick up more of an audience or that $140 million budget is going to really hurt.
